Principal's Message

January 2026

Hello Dahl Families,

My name is Michelle Quilantang and I have had the honor of being the principal at Captain Jason M. Dahl since 2020. This school year's theme is Level Up! We encourage each student to level up to new learning and this year has certainly lived up to its theme!

In the fall, we had our annual traditions like seasonal events, like Fall Festival and Conchas & Cocoa, but also included new events like a family movie night and family field trip to the Tech Museum. Instruction-wise, we started the school year with a focus on small group instruction in all of our classrooms in addition to providing additional tutoring to students in 1st - 2nd with retired reading teacher Ms. Mehay and for students in grades 3rd -6th with Tutor Me Education tutors, Julia and Marzieh. Just recently, our 6th graders had the chance to go to Walden West for science camp!

This spring, we will continue to level up through activities like a Restorative Justice Summit in February and more family field trips to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Oakland Zoo. With ELPAC and CAASPP testing coming up, we will meet with our students and plan goals for the new year. Additionally, there will be plenty of after school opportunities for our 4th - 6th graders including Math Intervention with Ms. Vallacqua and Irvine, Little Heroes Basketball Camp and explore their musical talents through after school band. Meanwhile, our Parent Engagement Group continues to shine bright and provide wonderful community events with upcoming movie nights, field day and more planned. . These are a few examples of what makes Dahl a great community school!

We look forward to seeing you on campus soon!

Sincerely,

Michelle Quilantang
