In third grade, your children will be close reading a variety of text types to deepen their knowledge of literature and the world around them. Students will be thinking critically about the reading and using evidence from the text to write paragraphs in response the reading questions. In math, students will focus on multiplication and division and how they are related, fractions, rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100, and solving 1 and 2 step word problems involving measurement and all four operations. Students will practice sharing their strategies and solutions with their peers and in writing. In science, students will study forces, weather and climate, interdependent relationships in the ecosystem, and the life cycles and traits of animals. The laws and US Government, Indigenous Americans, local history, and the economy will be studied in social studies.
